Historical Photographers

Dorothea Lange
documentary photographer
photojournalist
educated in photography at Columbia University in New York City,
Her studies of unemployed and homeless people captured the attention of local photographers
led to her employment with the federal Resettlement Administration


Murray Becker

Photojournalist
became a staff photographer for The New York American and The Albany Times-Union
was amongst a group who developed and pioneered the use of overhead and sequence cameras for both sports and news stories
held the title of chief photographer when he retired.

Ansel Adam

American photographer
environmentalist
developed the Zone System as a way to determine proper exposure and adjust the contrast of the final print. 
clarity and depth characterized his photographs
used large-format cameras because their high resolution helped ensure sharpness in his images.
